Who we are
ECWA Goodnews Church, Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Lugbe, was founded on 16th September 2007, as a prayer house by Pastor Dan Makadi under the auspices of ECWA Church, Central Area, located within Abuja Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The initial location was Havics Liberty Academy, a private school belonging to an ECWA couple, namely: Elder Musa Jibrin and Sister Habiba Musa Jibrin. On September 20, 2009, the Mother Church handed over the prayer house to Lugbe Local Church Council (LCC) under the supervision of Rev. Maidawa who was at ECWA Goodnews Church, Lugbe.
The FHA Prayer House relocated from Havics Liberty Academy to start worshipping in a tent erected on a rented plot of land located near Gardien Hotel Kapwa Junction on July 19, 2009. The Prayer House later purchased a plot of land about 300 metres east of the tent location where it is presently nestled as a permanent site. There, the prayer house was granted autonomy to start functioning as a Local Church Board (LCB) under Lugbe LCC on January 24, 2015.
ECWA Goodnews FHA Lugbe answered variant names such as ECWA FHA, ECWA Church FHA Lugbe, ECWA Gospel Church FHA Lugbe, and was officially named and celebrated as ECWA Goodnews Church FHA on April 26, 2021.
Purpose & Direction
To make disciples of all nations — preaching the Gospel, baptising believers, and teaching obedience to all that Christ commanded (Matthew 28:19–20).
To be a transformative, Spirit-empowered church that touches every community with the love of God and the truth of the Gospel.
Every ministry, decision, and sermon is grounded in the infallible Word of God. The Bible is our supreme authority in all matters of faith and practice.
We serve our city and nation through outreach, social welfare, education, and healthcare — expressing the love of God in tangible, life-changing ways.
We are a missions-sending church committed to taking the Gospel beyond our borders into unreached people groups across Africa and the world.
We invest in spiritual formation through Bible study, mentorship, small groups, and leadership development at every stage of the Christian journey.
Our Journey
2007
ECWA Goodnews Church FHA Lugbe began as a prayer house on 16 September 2007 under the leadership of Pastor Dan Makadi, under the auspices of ECWA Church, Central Area.
2009
The FHA Prayer House relocated from Havics Liberty Academy to a tent erected on rented land near Gardien Hotel, Kapwa Junction, on 19 July 2009. The Mother Church later handed over the prayer house to the Lugbe Local Church Council (LCC).
2015
On 24 January 2015, the prayer house was granted autonomy to begin functioning as a Local Church Board (LCB) under Lugbe LCC.
2018
Pastor Dan Makadi's tenure concluded in 2018, after which Pastor Istifanus Apolllos served as pastor from 2018 to 2023.
2021
On 26 April 2021, the church was officially named and celebrated as ECWA Goodnews Church FHA, following years of being known by various names including ECWA FHA, ECWA Church FHA Lugbe, and ECWA Gospel Church FHA Lugbe.
2023-present
From 2023, the church came under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Istifanus Koce, who continues to serve as the current Undershephered.
Our Leadership
Our leadership team is committed to faithfully teaching God's Word, shepherding His people, and equipping believers to live Christ-centred lives.
Shepherds the congregation, oversees the pastoral team, and provides spiritual direction for the church's vision, discipleship, and ministry programmes.
Assists the Senior Pastor in shepherding the church, with special focus on teaching, counselling, and applying biblical principles to everyday life.
Manages official church records, correspondence, and documentation, ensuring the smooth administrative running of the church's day-to-day affairs.
Oversees Sunday School, Bible study, and discipleship programmes, ensuring members are grounded in Scripture at every stage of their Christian journey.
Manages the church's financial records and reporting, ensuring transparency, accountability, and prudent stewardship of the resources entrusted to the church.
Coordinates the worship ministry — overseeing the choir, praise teams, and worship programmes that lead the congregation into Spirit-filled praise.
Leads the welfare ministry, coordinating care and support for members in need and expressing the love of Christ through practical, compassionate service.
Oversees church buildings, facilities, and ongoing projects — ensuring the physical infrastructure supports the church's ministry and growth.
What We Believe
We believe the Bible is the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God — the supreme guide for faith and practice.
We believe in one God, eternally existing as three persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — coequal and coeternal.
We believe that salvation is a gift of God received through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ alone.
We believe in the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ, the hope of believers, and the promise of eternal life.
We believe in the literal, personal, and imminent return of our Lord Jesus Christ to judge the living and the dead.
We believe the Holy Spirit indwells every believer, empowering them for holy living and effective witness.
